Lift heavy things on Avenue U

Move U Fitness is a small-group strength studio in Sheepshead Bay. Six people to a coach, real barbells and kettlebells, and the whole week printed on the wall so you always know what you are walking into.

Thursday, 6:45pm — small-group strength

No mirrors, no machines

Small groups, loud coaching

This is a training room, not a gym floor you wander around alone. You get told what to lift, how heavy, and what to fix — every single set.

  • Squat, hinge, push, pull, carry

Barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, sled. Five patterns loaded properly beat twenty machines used badly, and everything we program comes back to something you do outside — stairs, groceries, kids, ladders.

  • Six people, one coach, same hour

Groups cap at six so the coach can put hands on every lift. Everyone works the same movement with their own weight, so a first-timer and a two-year member train side by side without either one waiting.

  • Form gets fixed on set one

Nobody grinds through a bad hinge for eight weeks here. If the back rounds, the weight comes down and the pattern gets rebuilt that day. Bring an old shoulder or a cranky knee and we scale around it instead of skipping you.

  • Month to month, no sales desk

No contracts, no annual fee, nobody chasing you with an upgrade. You pay for the month, you come to the sessions on the board, and if life gets loud you pause by telling Mark at the door.

The week, printed on the wall

Strength days rotate A, B and C so the whole body gets loaded across the week. Conditioning days are short, sweaty and easy on the joints. Saturday is open floor plus the intro class for anyone new.

The floor set for a 6:30 am group

Miss a day and nothing is lost — the next session picks up the same pattern with a little more weight. Sessions run 60 minutes door to door, so the 6:30 am crowd is showered and on the Q by 7:40.

You will meet Mark first

Who counts your reps

Mark runs the room and coaches most mornings. Two more coaches take the evening and conditioning groups — their names are on the board inside, and you will know all three within a week.

Mark Izhak

Owner · head coach

Mark opens the door at 6 am, writes the board, and coaches the morning and 6:45 pm strength groups. He is the one who will scale a lift for your shoulder and the one who notices when you have quietly stopped showing up.

Conditioning coach

Tue & Thu groups

Runs engine work and the carry-and-core hour. Keeps the pace honest without turning the session into a competition, and will hand you a lighter bell without making a thing of it.

Wed & Heavy Friday

Takes the after-work groups and Heavy Friday. Big on setup: brace, stack, breathe, then move. Most first pull-ups in this room happened on his hour.

“I signed up for two months before a wedding and never left. The 6:30 group is my alarm clock now.”
M. · Sheepshead Bay · two years in
“First time I had ever touched a barbell. Nobody laughed, somebody fixed my back angle, and by spring I was pulling more than I weigh.”
A. · Gravesend · started as a beginner
“The coaches remember what I lifted last week. That is the entire trick, and no big gym on Kings Highway has ever done it.”
D. · Marine Park · Tue and Thu groups
